My Classic and Modern Takes on Pizza

I have always dreamed of having a real wood-fired pizza oven in our backyard. There is just something magical about the smell of burning wood, fresh dough, and bubbling cheese coming together in one perfect pizza. Thankfully, my amazing husband Joe managed to make that dream come true. Using DIY YouTube videos, patience, and a lot of hard work, he built a beautiful handmade pizza oven for our family. It was not easy, but it was absolutely worth it.

Pizza from a wood-fired oven simply tastes different — crisp on the outside, soft and airy inside, with that slightly smoky flavor that cannot be recreated in a regular oven. The best part is that it only takes about one minute to bake. Over time, through plenty of trial and error, I learned how to make authentic Neapolitan-style dough, and now pizza nights have become one of our favorite family traditions. Whether it is a summer evening with friends or a cozy holiday gathering, homemade pizza always brings everyone together.

But as much as we love traditional pizza, life sometimes reminds us to find balance and eat a little healthier. Since I enjoy experimenting in the kitchen, I started creating modern, healthier pizza versions that are quick, easy, and still incredibly delicious.

My very first 2-minute oat pizza became unexpectedly viral.

I think many people connected with the idea because we all live busy lives and still want food that feels comforting without being too heavy. After that, I continued experimenting and created quinoa pizza, chickpea pizza, and red lentil high-protein pizza recipes, which also became very popular on my social media.

Today, my family enjoys both worlds. We still adore traditional Neapolitan pizza baked in our handmade wood oven, and honestly, it is some of the best dough we have ever tasted. But every once in a while, when we want something lighter that will not completely destroy our healthy habits, we go for one-pan quick healthy pizzas that I feel I have truly perfected over time.
