From a Small Kitchen to Millions of Views
A few years ago, I never imagined that simple homemade recipes filmed in my kitchen would reach tens of millions of people around the world. I always loved cooking, and my family always loved eating, so I originally started sharing recipes to show my future sister-in-law in Vietnam how well we cook and eat in Croatia.
It all started with simple traditional recipes, but through a lot of trial and error, my Instagram videos slowly grew to numbers I could never have imagined. Surprisingly, the videos that performed best were often the simplest ones. I think people connected not only with the recipes themselves, but also with the feeling of homemade food and simple cooking.
Here are my top 5 most viral Instagram videos so far, together reaching over 180 million views.
1. Oat Balloon Flatbread — 53.4 Million Views
One of my most unexpected viral hits. This oat balloon flatbread became popular because of its dramatic puffing effect and simple ingredients. It looks easy to make, but sometimes it takes a little patience for the flatbread to fully inflate like a balloon. One important tip is to keep flipping it while cooking so it dries evenly on both sides. This helps trap the steam inside, allowing the flatbread to puff up properly. I think people loved how simple yet satisfying the whole process looked on camera.
2. Chia Strawberry Cake — 39 Million Views
This chia strawberry cake became one of my biggest dessert videos ever. This month is strawberry season in our garden, and honestly, one of the simplest pleasures in life for me is eating fresh strawberries picked straight from the garden. I wanted to create a light and refreshing recipe using ingredients we already had at home, so I combined fresh strawberries, chia seeds, and milk. For a vegan version, almond milk works perfectly as well. The viewers really connected with the recipe, and I am incredibly grateful for all the love this video received.
3. Lentil Balloon Flatbread — 34.5 Million Views
After the success of the oat version, this lentil balloon flatbread became another huge viral moment. High-protein recipes were becoming very popular, and viewers loved seeing lentils transformed into soft puffed bread.
4. Gluten Free Rice Bread — 31.7 Million Views
This recipe became especially popular among people searching for gluten free alternatives. The soft texture and minimal ingredients made it popular with my dear home cooks everywhere.
5. Flourless Cake — 28.8 Million Views
Sometimes the simplest recipes create the strongest reactions. What people loved most was that the recipe used only a few basic ingredients — just 2 bananas, 2 eggs, and 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder. It is one of those simple homemade desserts that proves you do not need complicated ingredients to make something delicious.
